Meet Peace Tree Parks

Peace Tree Parks is an incredible non-profit in the city of Detroit.  Since 2015, they have been on a mission to make sure Detroiters have access to fresh organic produce by bringing community and residential gardens to city neighborhoods.

Their Residential Garden program has brought organic garden beds and fresh produce directly to nearly sixty homes.

All residential garden beds are built and furnished by Peace Tree Parks for residents to maintain. ⁣

“Our Residential Garden program was created in 2016 as part of our mission to increase the access that local residents have to fresh organically grown produce. Thru this program participants are educated on how to start and manage their very own garden in their backyard. Each raised garden bed is installed with care by our Peace Tree Parks staff to get you started on your gardening journey.

Our residential garden program operates as a co-op with participants. Though garden beds are installed at no cost to participants, each participant is encouraged to donate in order to support funding for resources.”

This program is available to Metro Detroit residents in need, and is a great way to get your hands dirty with your own first garden.

If you would like to support Peace Tree Parks, we encourage you to volunteer at their community garden or donate to support their cause. Learn more at peacetreeparks.org.

Jenna lives in southeast Michigan on an urban homestead. She does her best to utilize a very small space to grow as much food as possible. By using both raised beds as well as permaculture methods, her homestead is ever-evolving into a space that better fits her family’s needs.
